This week we were part of a syndicate who were successful in purchasing the top price bull at the 2021 Ben Nevis Angus bull sale. Lot 44, Ben Nevis Rambo R230 was knocked down for $70,000 to a group of breeders consisting of Koojan Hills Angus, Banquet Angus, Glenmorgan Angus and Fernleigh Angus. Rambo R230 offers us a flexible mating option in 2022 due to his outcross pedigree and also the ability to mate him over heifers as well as mature cows.

Like all great bulls Rambo was a standout as a calf at Ben Nevis. On his sire side Newsflash N239 was purchased by Bannaby Angus in 2018 for $28,000 and has begun kicking goals in both our herd and through his role as an AI Sire in Breeder Genetics. Rambos Grandam Ben Nevis Jean H215 also sold to Bannaby Angus and Banquet Angus for an Australian Mature Cow record of $82,000. On his maternal side he has a brother who was retained for stud duties by Ben Nevis and his dam Celeste J121 was sold for $15,000. In the flesh he is lovely with a solid sires head, perfect temperament and sound feet.
In 2021 we calved down 25 Newsflash N239 calves and have been very impressed with them to date. So far they have ticked all the boxes including calving ease and early growth, showing plenty of thickness down the spine with stretch and a good rein.
We are confident Rambo R230 will leave a similar type and can’t wait to get calves on the ground in Manypeaks!
