Welcome to our 2024 Bull Sale

THE Metcalfe family is proud of the line-up of 96 bulls it will put forward in its annual Koojan Hills Angus on-property bull sale at Manypeaks on Monday, February 26.

The bulls in the team have all been bred specifically with the stud’s commercial clients in mind.

The stud’s breeding focus is always on phenotype, functionality and maternal characteristics while keeping in mind the traits which the Metcalfes believe are the main profit drivers – calving ease and growth.
Like past years, this year’s sale bulls have again been raised entirely on grass and in the lead up to the sale they have been supplemented with silage and oaten hay to enable their fertility and athleticism to be maintained.
Stud co-principal Chris Metcalfe said they want their bulls to go into herds and produce calves which arrive early and easily plus weigh well at weaning.
“Just as importantly we want the daughters of our bulls to last in our clients herds and believe many of our bulls have the capacity to be udder improvers,” Mr Metcalfe said.
There will be a number of new sire lines represented in this year’s sale and they include Myers Fair-N-Square, Banquet Nuttella, Varilek Geddes and Square B True North.

Mr Metcalfe said the new bloodlines such as Myers Fair-N-Square and Banquet Nuttella have some of the most phenotypically impressive heifers.

“Our Sitz Stellar blood heifers are also proving themselves to be exceptional young cows in the first calvers,” he said.

“These will be some of the dominant sire lines represented in our bull offering this year.”

Close to half the bulls on offer in this year’s catalogue the Metcalfes would recommend to use over heifers.

Two standout heifer safe bulls in the line-up in the eyes of the Metcalfes are lot six Koojan Hills Fair-N-Square T138 (by Myers Fair-N-Square) and lot 40 Koojan Hills True North T114 (by Square B True North 8052).
There will be 60 bulls in the team which are below average for gestation length and 60 that are above average for 400-day weight.

The Metcalfes will again offer six yearling bulls in the sale this year.

These yearling bulls are out of the stud’s top donor cows and by some exciting new sires including some of the first progeny in Australia by Millah Murrah Rembrandt R48, Ellingson Three Rivers and Sitz Resilient.

All bulls on offer in the sale have been vaccinated for Infectious Bovine Rhinotracheitis (IBR), have been tested free of genetic conditions and vaccinated following the Immune Ready program.
The Metcalfes will also personally deliver all bulls sold in the sale within 1000km of Manypeaks.

For prospective buyers wanting to inspect the Koojan Hills sale team prior to the sale, the stud will host an on-property field day on Friday, February 16, from 1-5pm.

As part of the field day, the Metcalfes will display some PTIC sisters of their sale bulls by so prospective buyers can view the female side of the herd.

If you are unable to attend the field day the Metcalfes welcome inspections of their sale team and herd by appointment prior to the sale by contacting Chris Metcalfe on 0488 468 001.
