Welcome to Our 2026 Bull Sale
THE Metcalfe family would like to welcome all cattle producers to their Koojan Hills on-property bull sale on Monday, February 23 where they will offer 85 Angus bulls alongside 18 Murray Greys from their Melaleuca stud.
This year’s offering of Angus bulls have been bred by the Metcalfe family, with a focus on commercial outcomes.
Koojan Hills co-principal Chris Metcalfe said in 2025 the family supplied just over 2300 cattle off grass to the supermarkets.
“Our average MSA index of 61.78 was well above the national average of 58.81 and we have seen demand for our cattle increase as a result,” Mr Metcalfe said.
“This just shows our genetics are performing in the commercial world and as a result we will continue to source Koojan Hills bred cattle for this reason for our grass fattening program.
“This carcase data we are getting from our commercial grass fattening program is very important and we are using it to help refine our breeding decisions in conjunction with our maternal breeding objectives.”
A bull which ticks all the boxes for the family’s grassfed commercial objectives is T288 that has 14 sons represented in this year’s catalogue.
Mr Metcalfe said T288’s progeny were feed efficient and they scanned exceptionally well in October.
“His daughters are just as good as his sons,” he said.
“T288 sons will be heavily used in our commercial program.
“There is a range of T288 sons available including several suitable for joining heifers to some powerful cow breeders.”
Another sire that features heavily in this year’s team is Mandayen Reebok with 10 sons. These bulls will suit those producers looking to breed moderate cattle with outstanding thickness, calving ease and structure.
For producers looking for heifer bulls, Mr Metcalfe said there were plenty of options as they would recommend over half the bulls in the catalogue would be suitable to use over heifers.
“We collect birthweights on every animal born and have full control on our calving ease for the benefit of our commercial herd and our commercial clients,” he said.
As per usual the Koojan Hills bulls have been prepared for sale since Christmas on silage and oaten hay to allow them to develop at their own pace.
“We do not push the bulls on pellets or grain at any stage”
For prospective buyers wanting to inspect the Koojan Hills sale team prior to the sale, the stud will host an on-property field day on Friday, February 13 from 1-5pm.
If you can’t attend the field day but still want to inspect the bulls prior to sale, the Metcalfes welcome inspection by appointment by contacting Chris Metcalfe on 0488 468 001.
